About

HellKat is the ceramic practice of Goldsmiths Fine Art graduate Sophie Carter, a British artist, living and working in South East London.  Creating abstract objects that exist between functionality and aesthetic form, HellKat crafts visual oddities designed to spark wonder and invite close contemplation.

Whilst some vessels are capable of performing their traditional task of holding, their primary purpose is not utility, but presence.  They are made to exist as self-contained aesthetic forms.  Others deliberately disregard the conventions of the domestic object, and assert themselves as standalone curiosities, explicit celebrations of form, surface, and visual intrigue.

HellKat is a space for continual refinement and experimental play, where form and function are tested, resisted, and reimagined.  The work distorts expectation, insisting we reconsider the ways we connect with objects.
